I felt the pressure of not having enough time nor energy to complete my homework with my full-time job. I was so overwhelmed, behind, and felt that life was controlling me.
My goal was to find a way to be able to study and handle other personal obligations without feeling scattered and barely making it by.
I tried staying up later to do my homework, but my brain was already fried from working all day. I did everything I could to avoid waking up earlier, but it was the last thing I could attempt to catch up with school.
I decided to wake up with my blue-collar husband somewhere between 4:30 and 6am for a week. Doing this was a gamechanger.
The Benefits of Getting Up Early as a Working Student
By getting up earlier, ironically, I found that I had more energy to complete the tasks on my to-do list. I was able to not only complete more of my personal commitments, but I was able to catch up with my classes.
This, partnered with my planning system, has brought me peace throughout the week, and I no longer have a scattered brain when it comes to my to-do list. I am in control of my life again, and can still keep most of my evenings to myself.
Conclusion
It was a difficult transition, but now I’m waking up consistently before 6am. I have learned that the peace and unlimited energy that comes with getting up early outweighs sleeping in for a couple more hours and not being able to catch up with my classes as a working student.
